Kerala:: Chapter 1: Landscapes
Following are a few of the images from my Kerala trip (Parambikulam WLS, Nelliyampathy and Pristine Islands)... All images shot handheld with an 18-135mm Lens mounted on a Nikon D80.
I shall begin by presenting a few landscapes from my trip to give you a feel of God's Own Country...
This was shot at Parambikulam Lake. The stormy feel was accentuated by a mystical sky and eerily calm waters...
Another interpretation of the same location. This was as the storm just started setting in... Typical Kerala climate...
This was again shot at the same location. This image shows a Bamboo raft resting the shore. Bamboo rafts are the main mode of transportation in these Mugger (Crocodylus palustris) rich waters... An interpretation...
This scape from Parambikulam shows a Changeable Hawk Eagle with a kill perched perfectly on a dead tree. On the lookout...
This was shot in Parambikulam. Beautiful colours and contours formed the landscapes... The person on the left is Praveen P Mohandas, a reknowned wildlife photographer.
These images were shot on the way to Nelliyampathy. The Western Ghats provide amazing habitats to a plethora of flora and fauna. The landscapes too are just as astounding with the play of shadows on the scapes... I wish I had a wider angle lens...
This was shot from the top of a cliff (Altitude: 3300 feet) in the POABS Tea Estates in Nelliyampathy in the Western Ghats. The clouds breeze through you at those heights and its only in pockets that sunlight peers through to the ground as we can see here. The Amla tree here made an interesting foreground subject...
This was also shot from the POABS Tea Estates in Nelliyampathy. A slightly different composition.
This was shot in the POABS Tea Estates. This image gives a feel of how Tea Estates are. The trees in between are Silver Oaks. They are often laced with Pepper plants... Tea anyone?
I was thinking of a simple yet beautiful image when I clicked this. I liked the purple flower in the top right corner.
Nothing much in particular here except for the moss laden sides of the road.
This image was shot in the backwaters of Kerala at Pristine Island Resorts near Kochi. Beautiful cloud formations led me to click this image...
This image shows a contraption called a Chinese Fishing Net in the Kerala Backwaters...
A view of the beauty of the backwater lakes as seen from a houseboat. The weather gives a nice mystical feel to the image.
This image shows the local fishermen laying nets in the lake to catch fish. The colours were lovely. No alteration to colours made...
Kerala is a beautiful land of 44 Rivers and over 1500 km in waterable channels. You might want to check out the Kerala Tourism page for some great images and more information on Gods Own Country. Attaching a few images from their campaign here. I'm sure they will inspire you to experience the Beauty of the state.
